Minutes of Meeting 3/21/09
The meeting was called to order by Chair, Ralph Hancock.
The minutes of the January meeting were approved with one addition:
The condition of the Citrus hiking trail was omitted. It is in
good condition.

Old Business:
State Convention, Florida Trail Association - Our chapter is
tasked to man the Hikers' Station 3/27/09 from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m.
From 2:00 to 4:00 - Cathy Muckler and the Skip Neill family. From
4:00 to 6:00 - Mitch Almon, Tom Hammond, Wilma and Art __________
and their daughter, Susan __________.
The memorial bench in memory of Ethel Palmer is being constructed
and will be placed in Gainesville. The verbage for the plaque
is being written by Eileen Weiland. Next year Ruth Rogg will organize
a memorial celebration for Ethel around the time of her birthday,
May 31.
Skip Neill distributed the Suncoast Chapter T-shirts to those
who had ordered them. When 12 more are ordered, they will be printed.

The gavel was passed to incoming Chair, Skip Neill, and gifts
of appreciation were presented to Ralph Hancock, outgoing Chair,
by Skip Neill and Ted Youngblood.
There has been a problem activating the members of our chapter.
Our officers, committee chairs and trail maintenance people should
nurture their replacements by training and educating those who
will take their places.
The Clam Bake will be held at Werner Boyce Salt Springs State
Park April 4 at 6:00 p.m. Please see Joe Spooner or Ruth Rogg
to purchase your tickets. Those planning to help should arrive
at 3:30 p.m.
There has been a 335% increase in our website viewers and 196
of them were new people.
There are only 119 people in our chapter who have no e-mail address,
but only 89 people have signed up to receive the Foot Notes by
e-mail. For business card size advertising in the Foot Notes,
see Ralph Hancock. We have 450 chapter members who don't participate
in meetings or hikes.
We had a good response at our display at J.B. Starkey Park March
14.
Lili Kaufmann has volunteered to help with Earth Day Sunday,
April 19, at Lowrey Park. The usual fee to have a table may be
waved for non-profit organizations.
The American Hiking Society is again sponsoring National Trail
Days June 6. We are encouraged to participate.
The Chinsegut Nature Center has asked if we would like to participate
in their event in April. Lois Vega will organize those participating
in this event.
Mitch Almon requested the Activity Leaders to meet after the
chapter meeting to organize future activities.
We have no Public Relations representative at this time. Anyone
interested, please contact Skip Neill.
Membership: Cheryl Canton is contacting new members and encouraging
their participation.

A hike will be scheduled in April on the new 2.4 mile trail at
Potts Preserve. The salvage lumber from demolishing a barn will
be used for a boardwalk building party in May.
Our next chapter meeting will be May 16 at Werner Boyce Salt
Springs State Park. The minutes of today's meeting and the treasurer's
report will be e-mailed out prior to this meeting.
A motion was made to adjourn. A "half-back" raffle
followed the meeting.
