To reach Little Manatee River State Park, take
I-75 to the Ruskin/Sun City Center exit and go east through Sun
City Center to highway US-301. Turn south on US-301. When you
reach the bridge across the river, you have another mile or so
until you find Lightfoot Road on the right. Turn right onto Lightfoot
and then right again into the park. As you cross the river, you
will see the entrance to Masonic
Youth Camp on the south side of the river and the east side
of the highway.
Check in and pay the State Park entry fee. Ask for directions
to the hiking loop and they will give you a map and the combination
to the gate. The 6 mile hiking loop at Little Manatee River SP
is on the north side of the river and on the west side of Highway
US-301. There is one primitive campsite. Approximately one-third
of the trail follows the banks of the river. During the summer
months, you may be able to see the white-flowered native azaleas
in bloom in the upland portions of the trail. There is a short
cross-over trail that allows for a 3 mile hike instead of the
6 mile hike.
