Thank You to all who made Suncoast's First
F-Troop project a success!
A big thank you to Bob Woods
and the F-Troop for their efforts this weekend. Also much appreciation
to Yvette Killian, Section Leader. Without her instigation this
project would not have taken place. A lot of work got done that
was badly needed.
The F-Troop came to the Hillsborough River St. Park this past
weekend [11/30-12/02]. An advance crew started showing up on Wednesday.
These people are eager. Then you see why. This was a lot of fun.
A lot of work got done, a lot of food got eaten. There was a late
change of plans or two. Our native plant speaker disappeared.
The park asked that we remove debris from a previous project.
We removed the old bridge debris. This took resources Thursday,
Saturday, and Sunday, but we got it all out. Janice and Sue dug
out the old culvert and built a retention wall to direct the water.
It should hold for years. Others ripped out weeds and hauled sand
and shell. Somewhere in excess of 15 bags of Cesar Weeds were
hauled away. The trail from the start to the new bridge is vastly
improved for its previous state. A mix of shell and sand is in
pretty much every trouble spot in that area. The rest of the trail
will have to wait for a later project.
This was my first F-Troop project. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I
certainly expect to do more in the future.
Hillsborough
River State Park would like to thank the Florida Trail Association
for all the hard work and positive energy. The bridge and trail
system looks great. Please keep us in mind for any support we can
offer in the future. Happy trails!
